Paula grew up in Manor Park, East London. She won the 2008 Alfred Fagon Award and was shortlisted for the 2009 John Whiting Award. Paula’s been a writer in residence at Soho Theatre and writer on attachment at the NT Studio. She’s written plays for Soho Theatre, Red Ladder, Almeida Projects, Tangle & Theatre Centre amongst others. Most recently she co-wrote Messiah with Jesse Briton on the legacy of Black Panther Activist Fred Hampton. She was part of the 2016-17 Drama Room at BBC Writersroom and included on the BBC new talent hotlist. Her interests take her in many directions, but she’s particularly intrigued by little known historical and contemporary black British stories. She’s run writing workshops for Soho Young Writers Lab, Graeae’s Write to Play and is a regular on the NT’s annual New Views Programme.
